OcyonBio’s Goal: Help Patients Access High-Cost Medications

With the goal of making certain high-cost medications accessible to patients, OcyonBio CEO Robert Salcedo said that the company’s mission is to provide affordable medicine by “helping companies
deliver the final product with the lowest cost of goods.”

The company is building a gene and cell therapy hub in the northwest coastal town of Aguadilla. Ocyon-Bio is creating an advanced therapy contract development, manufacturing organization (CDMO) that provides pre-clinical through commercial manufacturing including process development.

“Therefore [we are] allowing those companies to generate their profits at a lower price point to the patient,” Salcedo said in an interview with Caribbean Business. “A typical gene and therapy product costs between $300,000 to $2 million per dose. Our objective is to get that number to about $50,000 per dose.”
