Secretary of State Meets Panamanian Foreign Minister to Strengthen Trade
SAN JUAN – Puerto Rico’s secretary of State, Víctor Suárez, and the executive director of the Trade and Export Co., Francisco Chévere, have met with the vice president and Foreign Affairs minister of Panama, Isabel de Saint Malo de Álvaro, to further commercial efforts and the social agenda between Puerto Rico and Panama.
The officials agreed to join efforts geared toward Puerto Rican companies undertaking construction projects in Panama, as well as contributing to the economic development of both countries.
Saint Malo de Álvaro expressed interest in having Puerto Rican design and construction firms bid in multiple infrastructure projects to be developed in Panama in the coming years.
“We will inform Puerto Rican entrepreneurs about the requirements to take advantage of the new opportunities Panama is providing,” the secretary of state said in a statement Friday.
Suárez and Chévere also met with Panama’s minister of the presidency, Álvaro Alemán, who welcomed the commercial initiatives that private Puerto Rican companies seek to carry out in Panama, and supported an agenda of cooperation between the two governments.
