SHRM Puerto Rico to hold annual conference after Hurricane María
SAN JUAN – The Puerto Rico Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-PR) announced it will hold its annual conference Dec. 13-15 at the Sheraton Hotel and Casino in San Juan Convention District.
The conference, “Ignite; Leading Differentiation,” which was postponed due to Hurricane María will begin at noon on Wednesday with an educational program comprising concurrent and plenary sessions led by local and international speakers.
That same afternoon, at 2 p.m., the opening of the annual event will include a panel composed of professionals from different human resources areas to will speak about the profession’s challenges and opportunities after Hurricane María.

Labor Secretary Carlos Saavedra will also take part in the event. The educational panel will be followed by cocktails.
Among the most anticipated international speakers at this year’s conference is Capt. Richard Phillips, who was played by Tom Hanks in the hit movie “Captain Phillips,” about the captain of a cargo ship taken hostage by Somali pirates. His lecture, “Steering Your Ship Through Rough Waters: Lessons on Leadership from Captain Phillips,” will take place Friday morning.
His appearance comes after mini-talks called “Ignite Smart Talks,” a new concept this year, whereby different leaders will briefly speak about inspiring experiences the have had working with talent in their organizations.
