UPR student council leaders to meet with fiscal board
SAN JUAN – The Financial Oversight and Management Board has invited student council presidents and representatives of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) to meet, but limited the number of attendees to five.
This was announced via email Friday afternoon by the secretary-general of the National Student Confederation (CEN by its Spanish acronym), Danilo Trinidad Pérez Rivera. He criticized how the fiscal board announced the invitation with such short notice. The students were notified at about 1 p.m. Friday.
“Calling a meeting today, for today, with only hours of anticipation, would not do our colleagues in Mayagüez justice if, for example, we want to broaden the discussion about the the university community’s demands,” CEN’s secretary-general told CB en Español.
However, the meeting’s date, which was originally slated for 5 p.m. Friday, is now unclear, as is its location and how many fiscal board members will be present.
During the meeting, the CEN is expected to propose another meeting requesting that space be allowed for at least one student representative for each UPR campus, as well as another meeting after the National Student Assembly concludes to be able to take the demands and proposals of the student community as a whole.
