SAN JUAN — After several years of development, the MyPark application has reached the Puerto Rico market as an alternative for consumers who need to reserve a parking space when visiting different shopping centers around the island.

The MyPark service has entered the Boricua market offering 50 parking spaces in several shopping centers including Plaza Las Américas, Plaza Carolina and Puerto Rico Premium Outlets in Barceloneta. Reception of the product has been so great that the company is already in the process of ordering and installing 100 additional units to expand its services throughout the island, to places with parking spaces, such as stadiums, hospitals, universities, airports, movie complexes, parks, office buildings and other shopping centers.

“One of our most important goals with MyPark was to bring it to Puerto Rico, to our home, so we are extremely happy to make this a reality,” said Luis Mayendía, co-creator & CEO of MyPark.

The product was launched for the first time in 2015 from a garage in South Beach, Calif., and since then, the service has been implemented in different shopping centers in other states such as Florida and New Jersey.

To use the service, users download the application, through Apple Store or Google Play, to their mobile device and register using their email or Facebook account. The user then must indicate the place, date, time, when and where they want to park. The system will assign the user an available space, identified by a number, and the reservation is confirmed.

Upon reaching the parking lot, the user presses the access button on the application and the barrier in the parking lot is activated, allowing access to the space. Likewise, the user can go straight to the parking lot without an advance reservation, but having a space depends on availability at that time.

Among the main features the application provides is that if the person reaches the parking space, but finds it is too tight, he/she can change to a different space by activating the function “Switch and Pay.” In addition, individuals can arrive earlier and activate the “I’m here” function, and if a space is available, the application will indicate that. Otherwise, the user will have to wait until the time of the reservation. If the person arrives late, the system offers the option of “Add 15 more minutes” at no additional cost.
