Thousands of People Visit Culebra, Vieques this Week
SAN JUAN — So far, more than 30,000 people have used the island’s ferry service to Culebra and Vieques since late last week, the Puerto Rico Maritime Transportation Authority (ATM by its Spanish initials) announced Thursday.
The number of visitors traveling to the two island-municipalities is expected to increase throughout the weekend, as
a result of the Easter holidays, noted ATM Executive Director José Ruiz on Thursday. The ferry service is operating according to its normal schedule, but additional trips will be offered if necessary.
Ruiz urged for patience and moderation to those who will use the ferry service to return to the main island, due to high number of people using the commonwealth’s maritime transportation service.
Meanwhile, the ATM executive noted that ferry terminals at Fajardo, Culebra and Vieques have free Wi-Fi service, while citizens could also monitor the ferry service online.
The ATM efforts during the Holy Week have centered on guaranteeing a continuous, reliable and on-time service to both residents and tourists visiting the Culebra and Vieques, Ruiz explained.
