By on January 9, 2018

SAN JUAN – The executive director of Puerto Rico’s Trade & Export Co. (CCE by its Spanish initials), Ricardo Llerandi, announced Monday the new date for the Expo Puerto Rico event, which was postponed due to hurricanes Irma and María–Feb. 21 and 22, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.

“Expo Puerto Rico 2018 marks the beginning of a year of great impact for entrepreneurship. And the best alternative to foster this entrepreneurial spirit is this event, where we gather in one place, training, exports and innovation along with an exhibition area and business meetings. All this with the objective of facilitating local businesses’ access to more business opportunities that generate economic activity,” Llerandi said in a written statement.

This multi-sector business event will gather more than 50 international buyers on the island to hold business meetings with more than 100 Puerto Rican companies. In addition, it will have training workshops on topics related to international trade, innovation and technology.

The event will include the participation of buyers from the United States, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Haiti, Mexico and Spain. The executive director stressed that, “for the first time in Puerto Rico, the first virtual commercial mission will be held, where local business people will have the opportunity to hold business meetings with buyers abroad. This new virtual platform represents an advantage for exporters, since it is a first approach with the potential buyer and allows them to analyze what the possibilities are to export and to see a panorama of the market.”

The event also has a broad business training agenda that includes talks and forums, as well as two plenary lunch sessions. The two-day business training program includes workshops on technology and innovation, tax incentives as a tool to develop small and midsize businesses, export services, e-commerce and global branding.

In addition, the agenda includes forums on services and commercial opportunities in other markets, exporting services and financing and insurance.

Expo Puerto Rico will also feature the participation of international speakers such as officials of Start-Up Chile, who will speak about the impact of innovation in their initiative, which positioned the country as the entrepreneurship model of Latin America and allowed it to create links with professionals from more than 100 countries. Through the creation of an entrepreneurial ecosystem, Start-Up Chile has incentivized many Chilean entrepreneurs, helping them develop a sustainable economy for their country.
