Trustee appointed for Puerto Rico power utility procurement office
SAN JUAN – Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares appointed Ottmar Chávez to take control of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s (Prepa) purchasing and materials division.
After announcing his request that Prepa cancel the contract with Whitefish Energy, the governor said he would put a “trustee” in the purchasing and contracts area of the public corporation.
On Monday evening, La Fortaleza issued a press release announcing Chávez’s selection, who has been serving as director of contracting strategy since September at the Fiscal Agency & Financial Advisory Authority (Fafaa).
La Fortaleza’s statement adds that Chávez was part of the team that worked on implementation of the plan certified by the fiscal control board.
Before starting his role at Fafaa, Chávez worked at Medtronic and Eaton Corp. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international trade from Assumption College and a master’s degree in business administration, with a specialization in project management and acquisitions, from George Washington University.
