TV Special on Reviving the Economy Airs Sunday
SAN JUAN – Telemundo will broadcast the “Puerto Rico nos toca a todos” (“We All Play a Part in Puerto Rico”) one-hour special Sunday at 10:30 p.m. The program will feature the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CofC) presenting options to revive the island’s economy.
Journalist Luis Guardiola will moderate the special, whose guests are former Gov. Carlos Romero Barceló, former Resident Commissioner Antonio J. Colorado, economists Heidi Calero and Antonio J. Fernós Sagebién; entrepreneur Carlos R. Cobián, and CofC President José E. Vázquez Barquet.
“Let us combine our talents, not only to present ourselves to the world as a naturally beautiful island, but also one that is very qualified because of its human resources and that is highly competitive in terms of the new skills the world demands,” Vázquez Barquet said in a statement Saturday.
He added that the program’s goal is to deliver, through multiple media and initiatives, the message that “we must all play a part in lifting Puerto Rico up, and that together we will.”
In the statement, former Gov. Romero Barceló says, “The formula to revive the economy depends on reducing the government’s spending budget no less than 10 percent and that we develop a different model for economic development than the one we have had for decades.”
“We must also facilitate and encourage the establishment and development of small businesses and local investors,” Romero Barceló added.
