Univision launches ‘Edición Puerto Rico’ newscast
SAN JUAN – Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) is launching of “Edición Puerto Rico” (Puerto Rico Edition), an anchorless newscast with topical information and entertainment geared to the Puerto Rican community.
The daily 30-minute news show, produced in Miami, premieres Monday on local UniMás stations in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and Raleigh and on local Univisión stations in Puerto Rico and Entravision Communications affiliates in Boston, Hagerstown, Hartford, Orlando and Tampa.
The newscast will broadcast in the morning in Atlanta, Boston, Hagerstown, Hartford, Chicago, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tampa and Raleigh (check local listings) and at 11 p.m. in Puerto Rico.
“We are bringing together our resources to inform the millions of Puerto Ricans, regardless of where they live,” said Chris Peña, senior vice president of News, Local Media, UCI. “In face of relentless challenges, this 30-minute program is another example of how Univision is committed to informing our communities through news and delivering the content our audience is looking for.”
The broadcast will include stories from Puerto Rico Univision affiliates and stations; weather from the Univision Weather Center; and Puerto Rico’s WLII and WKAQ’s political analysis program, “Jugando Pelota Dura” (Playing Hardball). The segments will be a combination of graphics, sound bites and video packages of local and national news presented via narration.
Univision laid off its news reporting and production staff on the island as part of a company restructuring in 2014.
