Walmart Puerto Rico Receives Submissions for Program to Boost Local Economy
Walmart announced it would be receiving submissions for the fourth edition of its Open Call program to increase the purchase of products manufactured, processed, or harvested in Puerto Rico by $ 60 million until 2023.
The program’s objective is to replace imported merchandise and contribute to the growth of local entrepreneurs and industrialists. The event will be held virtually for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local suppliers interested in presenting their products to buyers at Walmart and Amigo stores in Puerto Rico during Open Call PR 2021 can register between September 2 and September 24 through www.opencallwalmartpr.com. The individual virtual meetings between the participants registered in the event and the buyers will be held on October 27.
“In the past three editions of Open Call PR, we have achieved an increase of $34 million in purchases of local products, which has allowed us to promote commercial activity and create jobs to benefit the socio-economic development and well-being of the communities in Puerto Rico. We want to continue creating bridges and opening doors to hundreds of companies to develop and strengthen the economy,” said Vivian Mercado, senior manager of Corporate Affairs at Walmart Puerto Rico.
