WIC Program Fumigates its 89 Centers in Puerto Rico

By on July 7, 2016

The executive director of Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in Puerto Rico, Dana Miró Medina, said today that 89 of the program’s center and 2,761 houses of pregnant women throughout the island were fumigated. She added that all pregnant women registered with the program (9,150) accepted the offer of having their homes fumigated, but only 2,761 requests were completed.

“The program has created a registry of all the participants that accept a visit for fumigation, and this is sent to the team of the Vector Center of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention so that they coordinate the fumigation service directly with each pregnant woman,” said Miró Medina at a public hearing today at the Capitol.
